our services

Short form assessments

We are able to prepare both party/party and solicitor/own client short form assessments. Our fees for doing so are a percentage of the assessed professional costs plus GST.

Many clients use our short form assessments to form part of their invoices/interim billings issued to their clients. We examine your file thoroughly and are able to maximize your costs recovery. Why not allow one of our consultants to assist you with your monthly/interim billings?

Costs Statements/Itemised Bills

We are able to prepare both Party/Party Costs Statements or Solicitor/Own Client Itemised Bills.

If your client has a costs order in their favour, the fee for preparing a Costs Statement will be based on the relevant Court scale for drawing and producing. This fee is included in the Costs Statement so you can seek to recover it from the other party.

If you require an Itemised Bill to be prepared, our fee for doing so is a percentage of your professional fees plus GST.

Please note, for any large scale matters we may offer discounted fees and we invite you to contact us to discuss.

Notices of Objection

We are able to prepare Notices of Objections in response to any Costs Statement you may have been served with. Our fee for doing so is based on an hourly rate. We will always provide you with an estimate of our fees before beginning work so that you can manage your client's expectations of ongoing costs in relation to assessment. We will also discuss with you whether offers  to settle should be made versus the costs of proceeding to assessment.

Please note that a Notice of Objections MUST be provided within 21 days of a Costs Statement being served. Prompt instructions to us are therefore appreciated so that we may have sufficient time to prepare your Notice of Objections.

Responses and other Submissions

Once a Notice of Objections has been provided, the Costs Applicant may then provide a Response and the Costs Respondent will have the opportunity to provide any Reply submissions. Whilst these are not mandatory under the Uniform Civil Procedure Rules (Qld), they may be helpful in the assessment process. We are able to provide these submissions if you should require. Our fee for doing so is based on an hourly rate.

Court appointed costs assessment

Please note our Ms Belinda Mason is a Court Appointed Costs Assessor (Qld) and you are invited to contact us to seek her Consent to Appointment. The rates for performing assessments can be found on the Register of Approved Cost Assessors on the court's website. See https://www.courts.qld.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0010/89956/register-approved-cost-assessors.pdf

In-house Costs Seminars

We are able to present in-house costs seminars to the legal profession. These can count towards your CLE points. We are able to tailor presentations to the needs of your firm.
